The Story

Barefoot Farming CIC started as two guys Ben McNicholl and Steven Boulter, with a vision and passion for sustainable fresh food and community growing,

Ben is originally from New Zealand, a Professional chef of 15 years by trade. With prior years in construction and landscaping. Steven is an Ebbw Vale local with vast knowledge of landscape design, mental health and well-being, and general construction.

With support from Tai Calon and in Partnership with neighbouring Flying Start whose initiatives and work are parallel to what we aim to achieve.

We are passionate about the protection of land and farming to create opportunities and benefits for all. Our purpose is to create spaces where communities can experience the environments in which they live and the benefits of self-sufficiency; using farming and nature to provide sustainability and aid health and wellbeing.

Community Approach

Through our inclusive approach, we provide hands-on experiences where individuals can not only grow fresh, nutritious food but also gain valuable skills to improve their well-being. From seasonal gardening and food preparation to health-focused classes and activities, we are here to support the local community in every step of their journey.

We aim to educate and create opportunities for the community to really understand how they contribute to sustainable futures for themselves while helping the land to develop and provide.

The model we are creating is designed to be viable, community based and sustainable, aiming to cover its costs of set up, production, and the initiatives and activities created to develop understanding and knowledge to grow and expand. To open opportunities for jobs for local people and the development of skills which can also be transferrable to better lives.

Trading as a social enterprise will allow development and growth; ensuring that the business model benefits the community. Specifically, to invest any profits back into the community and help with a wider network of creating the circular economy we need.
